Pronouns you actually use (I / you / we)
Choose the right ‘you’, and get comfortable with the most common pronoun patterns.
What to know
These are the patterns that matter most at beginner level.
- Finnish doesn’t have grammatical gender (no he/she difference in hän).
- Questions often use -ko/-kö: Puhutko…? (Do you speak…?)
- Finnish uses many cases (endings) instead of separate prepositions.
Minä olen täällä.
I am here.
Hän on ystäväni.
He/She is my friend.
Olen täällä.
I am here.
Haluan vettä.
I want water. (partitive)
En ymmärrä.
I don't understand.
Puhutko englantia?
Do you speak English?
Missä on wc?
Where is the bathroom/toilet?
Tämä on ystäväni.
This is my friend.
Practice tip
Take one sentence and swap the subject: I → you → we.
- Say it slowly first, then at normal speed.
- If the verb changes, learn the ‘you’ form as a pair.
