Verbs: the present tense you’ll actually use

A practical way to start using verbs without getting stuck in conjugation tables.

What matters most

Start with verbs that let you communicate immediately.

  • Present tense endings are regular for many verbs (-are/-ere/-ire).
  • Essere and avere are core helpers; passato prossimo is common for past.
Sono italiano.
I am Italian.
Ho tempo.
I have time.
Ho mangiato.
I ate / I have eaten.
Sono qui.
I am here.
Vorrei dell'acqua.
I would like some water.
Non capisco.
I don't understand.
