Default word order

Japanese is typically SOV and uses particles (は/が/を/に/で) to mark roles.

  • Start with short sentences and keep the pattern consistent.
  • Copy a native pattern, then swap one word at a time.

Core sentences to memorize

These are extremely reusable. Read them aloud, then change one word (water → coffee, bathroom → station…).

ここにいます。
Koko ni imasu
I am here.
水がほしいです。
Mizu ga hoshii desu
I want water.
わかりません。
Wakarimasen
I don't understand.
