Pronouns you actually use (I / you / we)
Choose the right ‘you’, and get comfortable with the most common pronoun patterns.
What to know
These are the patterns that matter most at beginner level.
- Du is the default ‘you’. Ni can be plural and sometimes polite.
- Swedish is V2: the verb is the 2nd element in main clauses.
- Verbs don’t change by person (same form for jag/du/han…).
Jag heter ____.
My name is ____.
Var bor du?
Where do you live?
Jag är här.
I am here.
Jag vill ha vatten.
I want water.
Jag förstår inte.
I don't understand.
Pratar du engelska?
Do you speak English?
Var är toaletten?
Where is the toilet?
Det här är min vän.
This is my friend.
Practice tip
Take one sentence and swap the subject: I → you → we.
- Say it slowly first, then at normal speed.
- If the verb changes, learn the ‘you’ form as a pair.
