Aspect (how verbs change meaning)
Some languages use aspect to show completion vs ongoing action. Learn it through phrase pairs, not tables.
The idea
Aspect is about how an action unfolds (ongoing vs completed), not just ‘past vs present’.
- Start with one common pair you’ll actually use.
- If your deck lists two verbs for ‘to do/to go’, they may be aspect pairs.
Jdu domů.
I’m going home.
Byl jsem tady.
I was here. (masc.)
Jsem v Praze.
I am in Prague.
Jedu do Prahy.
I’m going to Prague.
Jsem z Prahy.
I’m from Prague.
Jsem tady.
I am here.
Chci vodu.
I want water.
Nerozumím.
I don't understand.
Mluvíte anglicky?
Do you speak English? (formal/plural)
Kde je toaleta?
Where is the toilet?
