Verbs: the present tense you’ll actually use
A practical way to start using verbs without getting stuck in conjugation tables.
What matters most
Start with verbs that let you communicate immediately.
- Verb endings carry a lot of meaning (hablo/hablas/habla…).
- Two ‘to be’ verbs: ser (identity) and estar (state/location).
- Start by mastering present tense + a few high-frequency verbs.
Soy estudiante.
I am a student.
Estoy aquí.
I am here.
Hablo español.
I speak Spanish.
Quiero agua.
I want water.
No entiendo.
I don't understand.
¿Hablas inglés?
Do you speak English? (informal)
