Pronouns you actually use (I / you / we)

Choose the right ‘you’, and get comfortable with the most common pronoun patterns.

What to know

These are the patterns that matter most at beginner level.

  • Hindi has multiple ‘you’: आप (formal), तुम (informal), तू (very informal).
  • Pronouns are often dropped if the verb ending already makes it clear.
  • Postpositions come after the noun: घर में (in the house), स्कूल से (from school).

aap kaise hain
How are you? (formal)
तुम कहाँ रहते हो?
tum kahan rahte ho
Where do you live? (informal)

Practice tip

Take one sentence and swap the subject: I → you → we.

  • Say it slowly first, then at normal speed.
  • If the verb changes, learn the ‘you’ form as a pair.
